21.3.2023: Service break in Moodle on Wed 22 March at 7-8

There will be a service break in the LUT Universities’ Moodle (moodle.lut.fi) on Wednesday 22 March 2023 at 7:00-8:00 a.m. because of a security update. Moodle is unavailable during the break.

3.2.2023: Duo Mobile app can no longer be installed on Android versions 8 or 9 or iOS version 13

LUT Universities have adopted multi-factor authentication (MFA). To use the service, you need Duo Mobile application to your mobile device. Install the application to a phone or tablet that is always with you when you want to log in to LUT Universities’ services.

9.2.2023 onwards the installation of Duo Mobile will no longer be possible for Android versions 8 or 9 or iOS version 13 (or any older Android or iOS). If you have already installed Duo Mobile on these versions, you can still use it for multi-factor authentication. If you cannot update your phone to a newer iOS or Android version, please install Duo Mobile before 9.2.2023! Further information: Android and iOS.

MFA is a technology that uses two separate authentication methods before logging in is successful. This will improve user’s security and prevent user’s identity against abuse. First, you log in normally with your LUT account and password. After that you will be asked to identify yourself again via the Duo MFA service.

Further information on LUT Universities’ multi-factor authentication.

18.11.2022: Multi-factor authentication (DUO-MFA) will be adopted

LUT Universities will adopt multi-factor authentication (MFA) for students in the academic year 2022-2023.

LAB University of Applied Sciences will adopt DUO-MFA at the end of 2022.
LUT University will adopt DUO-MFA in the beginning of 2023.

MFA is a technology that uses two separate authentication methods before logging in is successful. This will improve user’s security and prevent user’s identity against abuse. First, you log in normally with your LUT account and password. After that you will be asked to identify yourself again via the DUO-MFA service. To use the service, you need Duo Mobile application to your mobile device. Install the application to a phone or tablet that is always with you when you want to log in to LUT Universities’ services.

When the DUO-MFA service is adopted, you will receive an email message from sender LUT Duo <noreply@lut.fi>. In the message, you will be prompted to install the Duo Mobile app and activate it via a link or QR code which is included in the email message. More information about the timetable is given closer to DUO-MFA service implementation. You must install and activate the Duo Mobile by a certain date. After this, logging in to for example Moodle, e-mail and other LUT services is no longer possible without multi-factor authentication.

To ease your adoption of DUO-MFA, check the correctness of your phone number in Sisu (+ sign in front of the area code and after that only numbers, no spaces). You can also install the Duo Mobile app on your phone and/or another mobile device already from your device's app store.

Further information and instructions on DUO-MFA can be found in IT Instructions and more instructions will be added there at the end of November.

1.11.2022: Problems in mobile printing

Mobile printing is not working currently. If you try to print by sending files as an email attachment to print@lut.fi or print@lab.fi, these files will not appear on the printers' printing list at this time. LUT IT Services will fix this.

However, you can print via driver printing normally using a LUT/LAB computer. Printer drivers are installed on computers at campuses and regional units (computer classrooms, library etc.). First, log on to a computer and send the files you want to print to the printing server (File -> Print -> and select printer \\rps.win.lut.fi\ SecurePrint). Then, log in to any printer and you will see the files in the list of files to print just the same way as you see files sent to the printing server as mobile printing (=via email).

Additional information and instructions on printing are available at IT instructions.

Update 1 November at 13:30: The issue has been fixed and mobile printing is working again. Files sent to the printing server via email now appear on printers (first log in normally to the printer with your LUT account) and they are printable for 72 hours. After that, the files will disappear form the server.

31.10.2022: Problems with LUT-VDI remote access service

Normally, you can use LUT-VDI remote access service (remote desktop) in three ways:

  1. Using VMware Horizon Client only (enter server name vdi.lut.fi when asked by the application)
  2. With a web browser at https://one.lut.fi and using VMware Horizon Client through it
  3. With a web browser at https://one.lut.fi without using VMware Horizon Client (consider this as a last option if VMware Horizon Client cannot be installed or is not working properly)

Currently, options 2 and 3 are not working. Option 1 works only if you use it from a LUT/LAB computer in campus network (computer classroom, library).

Additional information and instructions on LUT-VDI remote access service are available at IT instructions.

Update 31.10.2022 at 5 p.m.: The problem has been solved and you can use LUT-VDI remote access service again through all options 1- 3.

Update 1.11.2022 at 9 a.m.: The problem has renewed. Currently you can use LUT-VDI remote access service only in campus network (doesn’t work via eduroam) and only directly through VMware Horizon Client (one.lut.fi doesn’t work). So, LUT-VDI remote access service works if you use it from a LUT or LAB computer (e.g. in a computer classroom).

Update 2.11.2022 at 3 p.m.: The problem has been solved permanently and you can use LUT-VDI remote access service again through all options 1- 3.

26.10.2022: The layout of login page changes on Monday 31 October

The login screen of LUT Universities single sign on service (CAS, Central Authentication Service) will change on Monday 31 October 2022. New login page looks this:

New CAS login page

Single sign on service is used e.g. when you log in to Moodle.

25.10.2022: Service break in Moodle on Wed 26 October at 7-8

There will be a service break in the LUT Universities’ Moodle (moodle.lut.fi) on Wednesday 26 October 2022 at 7:00-8:00 a.m. because of a server maintenance break. Moodle is unavailable during the break.

11.10.2022: Service break in Moodle on Wed 12 October at 7-8

There will be a service break in the LUT Universities’ Moodle (moodle.lut.fi) on Wednesday 12 October 2022 at 7:00-8:00 a.m. because of plugins’ version updates. Moodle is unavailable during the break.

30.9.2022: Changes in LUT and LAB email service 24th October 2022 onwards

On 24 October 2022 Microsoft turns off Basic Authentication for specific protocols in email service (Exchange Online).  After that change, reading email with old email applications stops functioning. However, the Outlook program of the Office 365 package as well as the Outlook programs of mobile devices will continue to work.

Change prevents email reading with imap and activesync connection protocols. Programs that use those connection protocols are older email programs. Typically, those programs save userid and password to user's device. Background to change is also to raise information security.

Solutions to problems:
