Own computer (BYOD)

At the LUT students make their assignments mainly with their own computers. Teaching will be planned to mainly use software that doesn’t cause any additional costs to students. Students can for example use Microsoft Office products free of charge. You are recommended to have your own laptop computer in use, preferably acquired before the beginning of your studies.

Minimum recommendation for a laptop:

  • CPU: Intel Core i3 or similar (preferably i5 or similar)
  • RAM: 8 GB
  • Storage: 256 GB (SSD)
  • Display: FullHD (1920 x 1080), 13 “
  • Connectors: HDMI and USBs
  • Support for 5 GHz wireless network

These are useful:

  • Long lasting battery, lessons and excercises are often 1,5 - 4 hours long and charging the battery is not always possible.
  • Screen should be large enough, so you can keep two windows open side by side.
  • Your computer should be light enough to carry with you whole day.
  • At LUT, most programs used in studies work only in Microsoft Windows operating systems! Keep this in mind when choosing the laptop.
