LUT's student feedback systems are renewed

LUT has introduced a new SPARK course feedback system during the summer of 2022. The aim of the reform is to automate feedback collection and reporting so that we can focus more on processing and utilizing feedback in course implementation and supporting student learning. The aim is also to strengthen LUT's feedback culture further and strengthen students' motivation in responding to feedback questionnaires, as well as teachers' activity to provide counter-feedback.

The new feedback system is integrated into the Moodle learning environment, which is easily accessible to both students and teachers. In the context of the reform, the students’ anonymity has also been improved, and feedback reports are visible only after at least 3 students of the course have responded to the feedback questionnaire.

Below we have summarized what the new system means from the point of view of different players.

Students

  • receive a survey to answer via Course feedback sections or notifications in Moodle, or via a reminder to email,
  • can review the course specific feedback report of all structured questions and the counter-feedback provided by the teacher.

Teachers

  • can add their own, course specific questions in the questionnaire
  • can open the survey for students anytime they think is best, automatically it opens 2 days before the end date of the course visible in Moodle and closes 14 days after the end date
  • may choose to send extra-reminders to students if too few responses have been received
  • can view feedback report after 3 or more replies have arrived
  • can give students counter-feedback using the same system, so it will be visible to students in the context of the feedback report.

Head of degree programme

  • sees all the feedback reports of the courses of their degree programme, as well as the compilation report and trend report after feedback has been accumulated over a longer period.

Student Guilds

LUT Student Guilds continue to have a crucial role in processing and utilizing feedback in the degree programmes. The role will be strengthened and renewed operating models will be built during the autumn of 2022 together with the guilds and the student union.

StudentPulse

A student feedback platform called StudentPulse will be implemented in seven LUT BSc/MSc programmes this fall. Its micro-surveys offer real-time data on student experience of both on-campus and online studies. With the advantage of a wider perspective than feedback on individual courses, our goal is to make the student experience at LUT even better than before.
