Arrival at LUT
LUT Campuses
All international students are asked to provide LUT Student Services with their arrival information, including
- full name
- mobile number
- arrival date and time
- means of transportation
no later than three weeks before the date of arrival.
You will receive an arrival information form by e-mail during the summer for informing these details.
If you arrive in Lappeenranta on suggested arrival days starting from 2nd of January, you will be met by an LUT driver who will give you your LOAS apartment key and drive you to your LOAS apartment to meet your tutor – a senior LUT student.
Please note that to get a tutor, pick-up service (LUT Driver Service) and your apartment key upon arrival, you need to give LOAS permission to give your LOAS address and key to LUT. LOAS will ask for permission during the accommodation application process.
LUT tutors are available at your arrival mostly starting from the 2nd of January.
Your tutor will help you with practical matters during your first days in Lappeenranta and at LUT. You will receive your tutor’s contact information by e-mail around mid-December, before your departure for Finland. If you have not received your tutor's contact information latest 15th of December, contact tuutorointisihteeri@lut.fi.
We will start assigning tutors once most of the newcomers have provided their arrival information.
The LUT driver service will be available from 2nd of January to 7th of January between 8:00 in the morning and 24:00 midnight.
For the driver and the tutor to be able to meet you in Lappeenranta, you will need to submit your arrival details well in advance. If you will be driving your own car to Lappeenranta or will not be living in LOAS housing, no pick-up service will be available, and your tutor will meet you at the university at a mutually agreed time.
The pick-up service is offered only to students arriving from outside of Finland. Students from within Finland collect their keys from LOAS and arrange their own transportation to their apartment.
If you have any questions concerning your arrival, please contact LUT Student Services at arrival@lut.fi.

Instruction for new students unable to participate in the orientation in person on-campus (for coercive reasons only)
Orientation is an integral part of the studies at LUT University. New students are expected to participate in the orientation, as the purpose of the orientation is to provide important information for students to get a good start for their studies.
During the orientation students also choose and sign up for the courses in consultation with study counsellors and study advisers.
In case a student cannot arrive in Finland for orientation, student must participate in orientation online and complete course enrolments by 5th of January and start online studies right after the orientation on 8th of January to be able to arrive in Finland for on-campus studies latest 15th of January.
In case a student cannot participate in the orientation on campus for some coercive reason (due to residence permit delay), the following issues should be considered:
- Teaching starts on the 8th of January 2024, and the enrolment for the courses ends at the end of the orientation week, i.e., the 5th of January at 23.59 sharp. Course enrolments must be done online latest 5th of January. Contact opinto@lut.fi if you have problems with online enrolment.
- After 5th of January online enrolment is no longer available.
- Course enrolment after the 5th of January will be done manually at LUT Student Services. For most of the courses it is not possible to enrol late. Late enrolment for courses available must be done as soon as possible. Before enrolment a student needs to ask the teacher of the course if it is still possible to join after the official enrolment has ended. Contact person is Study Secretary Markus Korhonen/LUT Student Services (opinto@lut.fi).
- Students of the non-EU/EEA countries (excluding Switzerland) must pay the tuition fee before their arrival, following the deadlines mentioned on their letter of acceptance. In case of cancellation, the refund can be paid following the LUT refund policy. The contact party in tuition fee matters is LUT scholarship team (LUT.scholarships@lut.fi).
- Students must pay the Student Union of LUT University (LTKY) membership fee before their arrival as instructed. If for some technical reason it is not possible, it must be done before enrolling for the courses, i.e., upon arrival to Finland, at the LTKY's office in the Student Union building. Finnish Internet banking is the easiest option if it is available. Contact person for membership fees is Office Secretary Virpi Partti/LTKY (toimistosihteeri@ltky.fi).
- Students arriving after the orientation days are entitled to a welcoming package and partly entitled to the services of a tutor. Each new student is appointed a tutor. The appointed tutor has reserved a good amount of time to help the new students during the orientation week – however, it should be considered that once the studies commence, the tutor is also studying. The contact person in tutoring matters is Tutoring Secretary Kia Dillström/LUT Student Services (tuutorointisihteeri@lut.fi).
- Students from outside Finland need to consider that after the orientation week there is no LUT Driver service, and they need to pick up the keys to their apartment from Lappeenranta Student Housing Foundation (LOAS) by themselves.
- If a new degree student cannot participate in the orientation, they must contact their study counsellor to sort out all the practicalities with their studies, for example equivalence of the courses etc. All other study related inquiries are also directed to the study counsellor.
- New students must be present on campus in Finland latest 15th of January. This also applies if your residence permit has been delayed.
Given here deadlines for arrival in Finland on campus do not apply for students with possible special permission by the head of the programme.
Note: Course enrolments must be done until 5th of January 2024 at 23.59 (UTC+3) even if arriving late.
If having noticeable delays in your residence permit process, contact arrival@lut.fi as soon as possible.
