Maturity test

Maturity test for the lower and higher degrees

Students take a maturity test to demonstrate their knowledge of the field of his or her thesis and proficiency in Finnish or Swedish.

In the bachelor's degree, the language of the maturity test is determined by the student's language of compulsory education. The maturity test in Finnish is taken by students who have received their compulsory education Finnish. The maturity test in Swedish is taken by students who have received their compulsory education in Swedish.

In the master's degree, the maturity test is written in the language of the degree program. In English-language programs, it is generally written in English. An exception is made for students who have received their compulsory education in Finnish or Swedish but have not demonstrated their language skills in these languages in a maturity test for a lower higher education degree. In such cases, the maturity test is written in Finnish or Swedish.

The maturity test is written in a thesis seminar or similar. A maturity test is part of the thesis (e.g. an abstract, an introduction, a summary of the thesis) or some other text closely related to the thesis (e.g. an essay, a literature review, a self-evaluation). Alternatively, the maturity test can be written in Exam. Degree programs issue more detailed instructions to students on taking the maturity test.
