Duration of the right to study for a bachelor’s and master’s degree

The target durations of the bachelor’s and master’s degrees, durations of study rights and the impact of absences on the duration of the right to study are provided for in the Universities Act (558/2009)

These rules apply to students who started their studies on 1 August 2005 or later. The duration of the study right starts from the beginning of the month when the student accepted the study place.

Target times for the completion of a degree

  • Bachelor’s degree: 3 academic years
  • Master’s degree: 2 academic years

Total duration of the study right

  • a total of seven academic years for students admitted to complete both the degrees of Bachelor of Science (Technology) (180 ects credits) and Master of Science (Technology) (120 ects credits)
  • a total of four academic years for students admitted to complete only the degree of Master of Science (Technology) (120 ects credits)
  • a total of seven academic years for students admitted to complete both the degrees of Bachelor of Science (Economics and Business Administration) (180 ects credits) and Master of Science (Economics and Business Administration) (120 ects credits)
  • a total of four academic years for students admitted to complete only the degree of Master of Science (Economics and Business Administration) (120 ects credits)
