Transfer of a degree programme

At LUT university, it is possible to transfer from one degree programme to another within technology degree programmes. Only graduates with a bachelor's degree in technology from LUT University can apply for a transfer. In addition, students must meet certain conditions specific to the degree programme and submit an application with the required documents.

Instructions on this website concern students who have graduated from English-language bachelor programmes. It is not possible to transfer from business or social sciences to technology or vice versa - read more at Applying to Master's programmes.

Excluded degree programmes

Some degree programmes are only accessible through the regular admission or internal application procedure.

Programme descriptions and locations

Please note that some programmes take place in a different location from where you are currently studying - either on the campuses in Lappeenranta or Lahti, or at regional units in Kouvola or Mikkeli.

Admission criteria

School of Energy Systems (LES)

Electrical Engineering, Energy Technology, Environmental Technology, and Mechanical Engineering programmes

When you are considering the transfer, you can contact the study counsellor in your current programme, if necessary. Check also that your remaining study right is sufficient for your master's studies. Transferring a degree programme does not extend your study right.

Admission criteria

Following criteria must be met:

The student has a Bachelor of Science in Technology from LUT University.
The student has completed at least 20 ECTS credits of applicable studies (in the programme which s/he is applying to).
The weighted GPA of the bachelor's degree is at least 3.00 (scale 1-5).
The remaining study right is sufficient to complete the master's degree.

Programme specific requirements, Electrical Engineering

The student has completed at least 24 ECTS credits in electrical engineering and/or electronics. Information technology studies are not applicable.

School of Engineering Sciences (LENS)

Physics, Chemical Engineering, Computational Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Management, and Software Engineering programmes

Admission criteria

Following criteria must be met:

The student has a Bachelor of Science in Technology from LUT University.
The weighted GPA of the bachelor's degree is at least 3.00 (scale 1-5).
The remaining study right is sufficient to complete the master's degree.

Programme specific requirements, Physics

The student must have sufficient amount of studies supporting their education in following areas:

Classical Physics, Modern Physics, Thermodynamics, Electromagnetism, Quantum Mechanics and/or Mathematics.

Programme specific requirements, Chemical Engineering

The student has completed a minimum of 44 ECTS credits of applicable studies as follows:

at least 24 ECTS credits in chemical engineering
at least 20 ECTS credits in mathematics and/or physics

Programme specific requirements, Computational Engineering

The student has completed at least 60 ECTS credits of applicable studies as follows:

at least 60 ECTS credits in mathematics if advanced specialisation is Applied Mathematics.
at least 60 ECTS credits in information technology/computing science if advanced specialisation is Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition.
In addition, the minor subject corresponding to the chosen specialisation in the Master's degree must have a minimum of 20 ECTS credits.

Programme specific requirements, Industrial Engineering and Management

The student has completed at least 24 ECTS credits in industrial engineering and management or studies that support the programme.

Programme specific requirements, Software Engineering

The student has completed at least 24 ECTS credits in software engineering or studies that support the programme.

Applying

You can apply after graduating with a bachelor's degree in technology from LUT.

Application form and deadline

There is an ongoing application period and application is processed within one month of submission excluding July and August.

Applying is done via Webropol. You cannot save the application as a draft so be prepared to fill out the information and upload the attachments all at once.

Application for a degree programme transfer - academic year 2025-2026, Master's programmes

Required documents

You need to upload your diploma (degree certificate) and final transcript of records from your bachelor's degree to the application. Documents must be in PDF format, and multiple pages combined into a single document. If you have completed courses since graduation, take your most recent transcript of records from the Sisu system and upload it to the application.

Admission result

You will get the result by email within one month of submission excluding July and August. If you are admitted to a new degree programme, you must confirm the transfer by email. Only then will the information be updated in the Sisu system.

When you accept a place in a new degree programme, you lose your right to study in the previous programme at the end of the previous semester. The period of study will be determined by the previous study right.
