Scholarship for Master's studies

As a non-EU/EEA citizen (Swiss citizens excluded) you are required to pay a tuition fee but you are also eligible to apply a scholarship. Possible scholarships depend on the year of your intake. Preliminary statements about anybody's possibility for getting a scholarship cannot be given as it all depends on the other applicants as well.

Any Master's tuition fee scholarships are considered a discount on the tuition fee and are NOT paid to the student themselves.

First year discounts

LUT does not offer Master's scholarships for the first study year, but an early bird discount is offered on your admission letter.

Second year scholarships

Intake 2025 or earlier

In a 2-year Master's Programme, you are eligible to a second year scholarship of 6 000 € if having completed a minimum of 60 ECTS* of studies included in your Personal Study Plan during the first academic year. The required credits must be included on your Transcript of Records by the end of the first academic year i.e. by 31 July. With a possible scholarship the tuition fee is 7 500 € for the second academic year. Without a scholarship a full fee of 13 500 € is required.

The required ECTS credits will be automatically checked for and they must be included on your Transcript of Records by the end of the first academic year i.e. by 31 July. No application is needed. If the requirement for the minimum ECTS credits is met with, you will automatically be awarded a scholarship of 6 000 € for the second academic year. Any previous studies possibly credited to your LUT studies will not be included in the minimum required ECTS credits.

Some elective studies can be included in the required 60 ECTS*, as long as they are included your personal study plan and completed during your study right at LUT. Make sure to follow your curriculum and do not skip any core/specialization studies that might cause a delay on your graduation.

*NOTE! If only attending ONE semester during one academic year (1.8.-31.7.) the credit requirement for the next year's scholarship is 30 ECTS instead of 60 ECTS. The credits are always checked in August after each academic year.

Intake 2026

In a 2-year Master's Programme, you are eligible to a second year scholarship of 5 000 € if having completed a minimum of 60 ECTS* of studies included in your Personal Study Plan during the first academic year. The required credits must be included on your Transcript of Records by the end of the first academic year i.e. by 31 July. With a possible scholarship the tuition fee is 10 000 € for the second academic year. Without a scholarship a full fee of 15 000 € is required.

The required ECTS credits will be automatically checked for and they must be included on your Transcript of Records by the end of the first academic year i.e. by 31 July. No application is needed. If the requirement for the minimum ECTS credits is met with, you will automatically be awarded a scholarship of 5 000 € for the second academic year. Any previous studies possibly credited to your LUT studies will not be included in the minimum required ECTS credits.

If switching from normal Master's program to the Master's DD program

If you start your studies as a regular Master at LUT and are later nominated to Master's double degree programme by LUT, you will follow the regular Master's payment and scholarship policy throughout your studies. You will be paying the tuition fees to LUT, even during your double degree studies at the partner school.

In case your graduation is delayed until the beginning of the fifth semester due to the different semester timing at the partner school, we will not charge additional tuition fees for the fifth semester. However, if your studies are incomplete after your second academic year, you are required to pay the LUT's tuition fee for each semester.

Master in Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Technology Integration in Mining (MEITIM)

If you start your studies as a regular Master at LUT and are later nominated to MEITIM programme by LUT, you will receive possible first year scholarship decision together with your admission letter.

For the second year scholarship, covering the whole tuition fee for your second study year, the requirements are:

At least 60 ECTS of studies included in your curriculum completed during your first year AND
The exchange period to Spain will be executed

In case your studies continue longer than two years, you are required to pay the regular LUT tuition fee of 7500 EUR for each starting semester.

Nordic Master's Programme in Sustainable ICT Solutions of Tomorrow (Prophet)

The double degree Nordic Master's Programme in Sustainable ICT Solutions of Tomorrow is developed in cooperation with Aalborg University Copenhagen, AAU, Denmark. The programme combines the software engineering education of LUT with the ICT engineering education of AAU. The duration of the programme is 2 years and minimum content 120 ECTS credits.

The tuition fee is to be paid to your home University (LUT or AAU). If paying the tuition fee to LUT University, by completing at least 60 ECTS on your first year, you are entitled to a discount for the second year.
