Personal study plan (PSP)

The personal study plan, commonly known as PSP, is a tool for planning, scheduling and monitoring studies until their completion. At the beginning of their studies, students fill out their PSP in Sisu in line with that year’s degree structure, and it includes all the compulsory and optional modules and courses that are part of your degree.

Bachelor’s degree students complete their bachelor’s degree before continuing to master’s degree studies.

An up-to-date PSP helps with your studies

Students are obliged to keep their PSP up to date. Your PSP is officially reviewed at the following stages:

  • During the first year of your studies as part of the Introduction course
  • Upon graduation as a bachelor: the PSPs for both your bachelor’s and master’s degrees
  • Upon approval of your master’s thesis to ensure everything is in order for graduation.

PSPs are also reviewed at other times as needed. They are reviewed in the order of arrival and the processing time is about 1 month. The PSPs of students about to graduate take priority.

The PSP is important because

  • You register for courses and exams via your PSP.
  • If you enable default scheduling, you can see the order and time of completion for courses in your PSP schedule.
  • Applications for the recognition (inclusion or substitution) of prior studies are submitted in Sisu via your PSP.
  • Once you have completed all your studies, you can apply for graduation via Sisu.
  • If necessary, you can apply for an extension to your right to study in Sisu on the basis of an up-to-date PSP.

Basic rules for PSP

  • If you are completing both bachelor’s and master’s degree at LUT, you must fill out your PSP for the bachelor’s degree in accordance with the degree structure in effect when you start your studies. For the master’s PSP, it is strongly recommended that you update the study plan version to the latest one when you are starting your master’s studies. You must get your bachelor’s degree before starting master’s studies.
  • You can use any of the PSP templates released during your studies as long as any modules, such a major or a minor, are from the same study plan period.
  • For a bachelor’s degree, no less than 90 ECTS credits must be completed at LUT, and for a master’s degree, no less than 60 credits (at least 45 credits of major studies, including the thesis), for the university to be able to grant the degree certificate.
  • All modules must comply with the approved degree structures; you cannot build your own modules (e.g., a minor).
  • The credits set for the degree must be met (180 credits for the bachelor’s degree and 120 credits for the master’s degree). When necessary, optional studies can be included.

Help with your PSP

If you need help with filling out or updating your PSP, contact your student counsellor or advisor. Students fill out their first PSP under guidance during the orientation for new students.
