Work experience in Technology
Read the degree programme specific instructions in the last section of the page. You can find the necessary report templates at the bottom of this page.
Students can apply for the completed work experience to be included in their bachelor's and master's degrees. The work that can be included in the degree is paid work in an employment relationship or work in your own company, which duration is no less than least four weeks of full-time work.
Read more detailed instructions in the program specific instructions below. In the master’s degree, the work experience must be related to the field you are studying. A single employment and/or job certificate for a single employment period cannot be used for the work experience of both degrees.
Students can also utilize the employment they have before starting studies at LUT as your work experience, unless it has already been included it in another degree (e.g., an work experience included in an engineering degree from a university of applied sciences cannot be used for the master’s degree).
To apply for work experience as part of their degree, students write a report on the work experience and apply for it to be included in the degree.
Work experience report
An work experience report must be written in accordance with the report form (available at the end of this site).
The report is specific to the degree: separate job tasks and reports are required for the bachelor’s and master’s degrees.
If several work tasks/employment relationships are included in the application, the student must compile them into a single report (an application always contains a single report).
The student and the university must keep the reports confidential.
Students submit a single application for approval of an work experience for a degree (one application/degree).
Students must submit the work experience application in good time, no later than 3 months prior to the intended graduation date.
The application completed with attachments must be returned to the degree programme’s work experience coordinator in accordance with the guidelines of the degree programme, either by e-mail or in Moodle
Compulsory attachments to the application: work experience report, copies of the job certificate (Certificate must be in English) or a copy of the Trade Register extract if you worked in your own company.
If the student do both work experience periods in the same company, which gives student one job certificate, ensure that the certificate includes two work periods and two separate job descriptions (separate work periods and different tasks are required for the bachelor’s and master’ degrees).
The compulsory work experience is recorded in the students personal study plan (PSP) as a course. If you do your compulsory work experience abroad, update the course code in your PSP to the course code ending with a ‘U’, which is intended for foreign work experience.
Once your work experience has been approved, it is recorded as approved with the grade H (approved).
An work experience that will be included in optional studies or exceeds the extent of the compulsory work experience is recorded in the PSP as a study draft, which is submitted for approval in Sisu before the work experience application and the work report are sent to the coordinator. The study draft is given the name ‘työkokemus work experience’. See Sisu’s instructions for work experience here.
Appeals
If you are unhappy with the evaluation of your performance, you can lodge an appeal with the reviewer of your work experience within 14 days of the publication of the grade. You must appeal to the university’s Degree Board within 14 days of receiving the decision.
