Registration for the Academic year for continuing students

You must register as attending or non-attending for all your active study rights every year to retain your right to study. Register for the academic year as attending or non-attending via OILI between 1 May and 31 August*.

Academic year begins on 1st August and only students who have registered as attending have the right to take courses, register studies in the study register and to graduate.

When registering as an attending bachelor’s or master’s degree student, pay the student union membership fee online. The fee is mandatory for all students completing a degree and it is paid annually. More information on Student Union website. Doctoral students do not have to pay the student union membership fee.

*Scholarship/tuition fee students must contact scholarships@lut.fi before they can register as attending/non-attending. Enrolment will be available via OILI 2-3 business days after tuition fee payment is confirmed.

Tuition fee payment is only the first step in the enrollment process. You should also enroll for the academic year/semester by paying student union fee. IF you have paid part of the tuition fee you cannot enroll via Oili, so you should enroll by following the instructions on this page from Late registration and reinstatement of study rights part. Note that you don’t need to pay the re-enrollment fee and that the student union fee for one semester is 42 euros.

You can only change attendance to non-attendance during the registration period. You can change your attendance for the autumn semester to an absence by 31 August. For the spring semester, you can change attendance to absence between 1.12 and 31.12. You can make the change in the OILI enrolment service.

You can change your status from non-attending to attending at any time during the present term.

You can make a change between 1 September and 30 April in the OILI enrolment service.

At other times, registrations and changes to registrations will be handled in the same way as late registrations.

Late registration and reinstatement of study rights

If you forgot to register by the deadline, take the following steps:

If you register as an attending bachelor’s or master’s degree student, pay the student union membership fee via LTKY page. Doctoral students do not have to pay the student union membership fee.
The application for reinstatement is subject to a processing fee of 50 euros in accordance with the Government decree 1082/2009, section 4 (amended 25 April 2024). Pay the fee of €50 at LUTShop.
Submit your payment receipts to the Student Customer Services.

Delivery of receipts

The payment receipt of the membership fee (only pertains to undergraduate/graduate students) and the re-enrolment fee must be delivered to the Student Customer Services to enable registration and reinstatement of study rights by email to opinto@lut.fi or by post to LUT-yliopisto, Opiskelijapalvelut, P.O. Box 20, 53851 Lappeenranta.

Note! You do not have to pay the re-enrolment fee if you are changing your registration status from non-attending to attending. Your study right remains active while you are registered as non-attending and therefore it does not have to be reactivated by paying the re-enrolment fee. Your study right is only inactivated if you fail to register by the deadline.

Reactivation of the study right

Neglecting to register for the academic year uses up the time allocated to you for the completion of your degree. This applies to study rights to study for a bachelor’s or master’s degree that started on 1 August 2005 or later.

If you did not register as an attending or non-attending student for the previous academic year, you must apply for the reactivation of your right to study. You can apply for the reactivation via this form.The application for reinstatement is subject to a processing fee of 50 euros in accordance with the Government decree 1082/2009, section 4 (amended 25 April 2024).

Finnish Student Health Service (FSHS) fee

Students entitled to the services of the Finnish Student Health Service (FSHS) must pay a healthcare fee to Kela for each academic year. Students who are studying for a bachelor’s or master’s degree and have registered as attending for the academic year are entitled to the FSHS services. Doctoral students, exchange students to Finland, open university students, students in continuing education or specialising studies and students attending customer-specific training are not entitled to the FSHS services and do not have to pay the fee.
