Help the Earth Breathe – Plant a Tree 2026
Event for LUT’s first-year students (master’s, bachelor’s, and exchange students) and their tutors
Date and time: Thursday 3 September, at 14/15–17 (approximate duration)
Transportation: Either bus or guided bicycle ride.
The bus leaves from the main entrance of the LUT university at 15 pm in the afternoon.

This is an event where participants of the event will plant a tree symbolically for every student who starts their studies at LUT University in the academic year 2026–2027. The aim of the event is to help the climate through carbon sequestration – by planting trees in a small area in Kaipiala district, Lappeenranta.
The university will arrange bus transportation to and from the location. You can also ride a bicycle to the destination; a guide will lead the way. The bus and the bike guide will leave from the main entrance of the LUT University. The bus will leave at 15 and guided bicycle ride at 14.
The distance from the university to the destination is roughly 13 kilometres. The trees will be planted in an area of Kaipiala district.
You can ride your own bike or a Donkey Republic rental bike, which you can use free of charge. You can find Donkey Republic pick-up locations on campus. After you are done, leave the rental bike at any Donkey Republic drop-off location in Lappeenranta.
The first 70 students and tutors to sign up can take part.
The event will start with a talk about the climate, carbon sequestration, and forestry and the forest industry in South-east Finland. Then, the participants will take part in planting over 2000 small tree saplings.
There will be served soft drinks and a small snack during the event.
Those who sign up will receive more detailed instructions in their email before the event.
LUT’s first-year students, their tutors, LUT staff members and media representatives are welcome to join!
