The ideal timing depends on your LUT degree and the stage and pace of your studies.

In undergraduate studies, most common is 3rd or 4th year for technology students, and 2nd or 3rd for business students. However, degree programmes may vary in this aspect. In graduate studies, the most important factor is your study plan. Some programmes recommend a certain semester.

If you feel uncertain about the timing, you can consult your study counsellor. However, the main responsibility for planning the exchange and timing lies with the student. Your study counsellor can help you clarify what type of studies you can still include in your LUT degree: intermediate specialisation studies, core studies, advanced specialisation studies, minor studies, language courses or elective studies.

Note also that the academic calendar often differs from the Finnish one: semester start and end dates, and even the number of semesters (it's not always two) may differ. To plan your exchange, it is essential to know whether your semester starts in January, February, March or April - or in September/October/November. When planning your summer jobs, remember to also check when the autumn semester ends: it doesn't always finish in May or June. The schedule can be found on each university's website using the search term academic calendar. 

Each university is targeted to certain study fields. Applications from students in other fields can also be accepted if there are not enough applications from students in the study fields mentioned. In other words, you can apply to any of our partner universities - just make sure to see which study fields are available at each. 

The study fields for each university have been marked on the destinations page (check out also the portal mentioned in that page).

You can search for course information on each university's website (tip: search for incoming exchange and fact sheet).

• Some fact sheets have been uploaded on our LUT Mobility-Online Portal.
• The course listings for future semesters are not available yet. On your application form, you can make a general plan about the study field you plan to study on exchange, and refer to previous semesters' course information, if available.
• You should aim for at least 30 ECTS credits per semester.

Unfortunately LUT staff do not have any additional information about the courses.

For the LUT application form, although no language certificate is uploaded yet, you still need to find out whether the receiving university requires a language proficiency certificate. This is important to minimize the risk of later complications. The language proficiency requirements are set by each receiving university, not LUT. The receiving universities will guide the applicants chosen by LUT with clear instructions at a later stage.

The language requirements can be found on the fact sheet or incoming exchange study website of each university. If you cannot find the information, you may contact the receiving university directly. Find out about the requirements but do not worry too much - generally speaking, most LUT students already possess adequate English skills to be accepted for exchange studies at most of our partner universities!

1. Fill in the first section of the LUT Mobility-Online application form (login not required). Recommended browsers are Firefox and Chrome.
    
2. Select three universities in the application form. The form cannot be submitted with less.
3. Enter the email address you use regularly: ignorance of the reminders sent to you will be not be an acceptable excuse for missing the deadlines set by LUT exchange study grant terms or failure to comply with guidance from university staff.
    
4. If you are applying to a university that is allocated to all engineering students, select Engineering as the Field of Study.
5. After submitting this first part of the form, you will receive an email containing a login link to LUT Mobility-Online. Then you are able to finish the application by uploading your photo (max 500 pixels per side, doesn't have to be an official passport photo) and filling in the additional information.
    
6. Finally, remember to submit your application! Incomplete or late applications will be rejected. Applications will be processed after the application round has ended.

The situation changes every year, unfortunately it is nearly impossible to anwer this question. It is mandatory to select three options in your application – this also improves everyone's chances of getting selected somewhere.

We have selected only good options for our students. Again, it is recommended to consult each university's website for more information.

Maybe, but you could only take undergraduate courses. Contact your study counsellor to discuss whether it is possible to include undergraduate courses in your Master's degree. Your degree programme has the final say in the matter.

You can decide this yourself based on your intended schedule – however, consult your study counsellor also. Note that the receiving university might later require a bachelor's degree certificate from you. Unfortunately, most universities have not published information about whether they accept students who have almost finished their bachelor's for master-level exchange. However, you could contact the receiving universities and enquire the matter. 

Note that LUT does not have this information either, as it is subject to change and ultimate up to each receiving university and even different faculties might have different policies.

If you apply for master-level exchange, your LUT Head of Degree Programme might set finishing your bachelor's degree before starting the exchange as a precondition for accepting your application.

Yes, provided you pay the tuition fees – usually several thousand euros – yourself. You will not be eligible for financial or other support from LUT. Note also that only some universities accept visiting or freemover students from outside their list of partners. If you intend to include such studies in your LUT degree, contact your study counsellor.

Here. Full-year exchanges are only (sometimes) possible in our European Erasmus+ exchange universities.

The selection is made according to other criteria, therefore it's probably not possible. Nevertheless, you can mention your wish in the Any other remarks section of the application form. If for certain destinations there are no other applicants, we might be able to consider it.

No extra points, no changing afterwards.

No, not necessary. To assure equal treatment for all students, only the credits registered on Sisu at the time of application count. We will also check the number of credits and other information the applicants enter on their form.

LUT International Mobility Services and your head of degree programme (the latter makes the final decision on the application) are aware that sometimes credit registration may take time, and will check your records on Sisu if necessary.

That doesn't normally happen, it is rare.
