Lappeenranta, a city of 72 000 residents located in South-east Finland, combines a cosy small town atmosphere with full-scale urban comforts. It is located by Lake Saimaa, the fourth largest lake in Europe.
LUT University’s green and modern campus in the district of Skinnarila offers a compact combinationof all of the services students need. Most student apartments are located within walking distance, and the university offers everything from laboratories to library services and from restaurants to health care –literally under one roof. The campus is roughly seven kilometres from the city centre, and buses run every 15 minutes.
Skinnarila has excellent sports and recreation venues. The campus houses several gyms, and group fitness classes are available almost daily. Moreover, Lake Saimaa and its surroundings provide ample opportunities for outdoor activities.There are five lunch restaurants that offer student discounts on the campus. In addition, there is a café and convenience store.

Lahti is a city of approximately 120 000 residents. It is known for its sports venues and is appreciated around the world for its design expertise and highlevel cultural events.
The three core issues of the city’s competitiveness strategy are the circular economy, a combination of design and digitalisation, and an active lifestyle and sports.

LUT University’s Lahti campus is located in the district of Niemi, three kilometres from the Lahti city centre. The new campus is a modern learning environment built in an old factory. Mixing the old and the new provides a unique and inspiring setting for learning and work. The university campus is located 500 metres from the Niemi Harbour by Lake Vesijärvi.
Lahti is a pioneer of circular economy: the city does not only reduce the amount of waste, it also uses the waste that is generated as efficiently as possible. Lahti is a winner of European Green Capital award for 2021.

Mikkeli is located near lakes and nature. Mikkeli is a historical town that was founded in 1838. There are about 52,000 inhabitants in Mikkeli.
It is easy to get to Mikkeli by public transport and the journey for example from Helsinki takes about 2.5 hours. Mikkeli is a small town, and therefore it is easy and quick to move around the area on foot or by bike. The beautiful nature is included in everyday life. The offices of the Mikkeli regional unit are located about 15 minutes’ walk from the Mikkeli city center.
Mikkeli is located on the shores of Lake Saimaa. The surrounding nature offers many opportunities for jogging, cycling, water sports and, for example, fishing. Winter offers the opportunity for various experiences, such as cross-country skiing, downhill skiing, ice skating or enjoying the winter nature. You can get to know the sights of the region on your own or also there are tours offered by tourism services.
Mikkeli has an active Mikkeli University Consortium (MUC), which includes LUT University, Aalto University, and the University of Helsinki. The South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences (XAMK) operates in the city, and more than 4,000 of its students study in Mikkeli. Students of Aalto University and XAMK are also active in organizing leisure events.
