Greetings from J. Hyneman Center!
Over the summer, JHC was refurbished: the equipment was serviced, the layout improved, and everything is ready for builders this fall.
At JHC, students learn through problem-based projects by experimenting, prototyping, and finding new solutions. Nearly a thousand students use the facilities each year, making JHC not only a workshop but also a meeting place for collaboration, research, and innovation.
Teachers from LUT and LAB are welcome to run course exercises at JHC. We provide the tools and facilities; courses only need to bring materials. Our student assistants are available during opening hours to support participants.
Large platform projects, such as the electric racing motorcycle JHC Ukkonen, are developed year after year with new ideas and technologies. These projects offer students practical assignments, thesis work, and research opportunities.
All LUT Group students and staff can also use JHC for their own prototypes, from study projects to business ideas. We work closely with LUTES and LUT’s Business Mill to help ideas grow toward commercialization.
Doctoral students are increasingly active at JHC, using the facilities to build prototypes or test materials for their research. We encourage graduate students and supervisors alike to make full use of the opportunities JHC offers.
Professor of Practice Jamie Hyneman is closely involved in JHC’s activities, bringing unique experience in problem-solving and innovation. Together with JHC, he bridges the gap between theory and practice, which is essential for every student’s learning journey.
How could JHC support your teaching or research goals this semester? Let’s build something together!
