Mari Kallioinen-Mänttäri appointed LUT University's provost
In its meeting on 20 March 2025, LUT’s board appointed Mari Kallioinen-Mänttäri, DSc (Tech.) and professor of separation technology, as provost.
The open call drew six applications by the deadline. Kallionen-Mänttäri was deemed the best fit for the position based on her experience and expertise.
Kallioinen-Mänttäri, 48, has worked at LUT as a professor, a department head, and the dean of the School of Engineering Sciences. She has also been an LUT board member and is currently a member of the university's management committee.
In her role as provost, Kallioinen-Mänttäri will be responsible for the internal strategic and operational management of LUT's research and education. The deans of LUT’s schools will report to the provost, and the provost will report to the rector. The provost is a member of the management committees of LUT University and the LUT Group.
“As a graduate and long-time employee of LUT University, Mari is the perfect choice for the position,” says Juha-Matti Saksa, rector of LUT University. “The provost's job combines the management of both education and research, and Mari is extremely well equipped to do both. In addition, Mari’s extensive networks of industry and academic contacts will be highly valuable in her upcoming work.”
Mari Kallioinen-Mänttäri will start in her new role as soon as the LUT School of Engineering Sciences has finalised arrangements for the dean’s position. The provost’s term will end on 31 December 2028.
The position of dean at the LUT School of Engineering Sciences will open for internal recruitment in the coming days.
